I heard on the news last night Obama signed on the dotted line and made this illegal. I forgot about that while I was texting Crystal in CA as I was driving home from work today. Oops! I realized it about halfway home, thankfully. I also thought, it is illegal now, and even if I don't see any cops around, it's a wise thing to not text while driving. Thought it may be difficult, I would like to commit to not do that anymore.
Anyone else with me??

I found myself wanting to do this today too... But refrained. As good of an idea that it is not to text while driving, I still think it rather harsh to simply outright ban it. Like I said, I don't think they are a good mix. But for the government to step in and say "You can't do this" and then still allow people to eat, smoke, talk on cell phones, do their hair, ride with their dog on their lap, and a multitude of other driving-impairing actions seems a bit absurd to me. Am I alone with this thinking?

Hmm.. I just read online, that this was only pertaining to "government" employees. So anyone who is a federal worker cannot legally Text while driving.

Still seems kind of bizarre if you ask me.

I do agree with Josh about how the government shouldn't necessarily be stepping in to make a law against texting while driving, especially if they aren't going to ban the other not smart things people do while they're behind the wheel.

I'm also with you, Ash! I saw a video from YouTube of what must have been a dramatization of an accident that occurred due to a driver texting on the road. I included the link in this post if you want to check it out. It's intense and disturbing, but it's fully possible. The accident that happened on E Road across from our house a week ago was said to have been caused by an "electronic device." It's really just not a good idea. I ask Tom to let me text for him when I'm riding with him, even, because I am just not comfortable with the concept.

I'm not aware of the legalities of texting while driving, but when you think about it we all know it's dangerous. When I "just have" to reply to a text when I'm driving, I usually give my phone to one of my son's and tell them what to reply. Or I wait until I am at a stop light.

Regardless, my aunt in Massachuetts was just rear-ended a couple of weeks ago by a gal who was texting. She didn't have to remain in the hospital and when home within a few hours but she is still hurting. Her car was totaled and since she didn't or couldn't return to work fast enough, she has lost her job.

Makes me wonder, "How important was that young ladies text?"

Ellie, is still recouperating and is a new Grandma since the accident. She was raised in the church, and has a superficial belief in God etc. There is no evidence of a Christian walk. She'll ask for prayer, and say she's praying for you, but she'll also be the first to forward the "good luck will follow" emails.

Let's just leaving the texting until we get home, shall we?

The link wasn't included for some reason...By the way, is that the British video with the teenagers? That one was unreal. I think every teen should have to watch that. If it's the same one. I saw most of the extended version, which is about 10 or so minutes long. what a eye opener.

I couldn't figure out how to get it to link. That is the video I was talking about, though, Josh. I think every teenager should have to see it, too. Pretty freaky! I think I succeeded in linking it now (with the assistance of my genius husband!).

Yeah, it's for our own good, however I'm not sure the government should manage that sort of thing for us. I'm pretty sure we can accomplish those things if we want them on the state level.

Yeah... I think sneezing should be illegal while driving too. Whenever I sneeze, I sneeze at least twice. And as far as I know, it's impossible to sneeze with my eyes open. Therefore, I must lose sight of the rode for at least two seconds whilst all of this occurs. Scary eh?
